Dundee extended their clean sheet record to five games on Saturday with a comprehensive victory over bottom club Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Kevin McDonald, Paul Dixon, and Simon Lynch were the goalscorers in this 3-0 victory, which also saw Dundee score their first away goals since they last visited Glebe Park in October.

Bryan Deasley started his first top team game for the Dee’s in place of fellow youngster Craig O’Reilly. This represented the only change from the team that drew 0-0 with Ross County the week before.

Dundee dominated possession in the early stages of the match but didn’t really threaten Craig Nelson in the Brechin goal until Kevin McDonald opened the scoring on 19 minutes. Garry Brady’s initial shot was blocked into the path of the youngster who swept home his 2nd goal of the season from 15 yards out.

Brechin came more into the game at this stage, and Scott Murray had to look lively to parry a Steven Hampshire to safety after Gerry Britton played him in.

After the break, Dundee moved up a gear to seal the win, and the lead was doubled 8 minutes into the second half. Left back Paul Dixon running at the Brechin defence before unleashing a left foot pile driver at goal from 25 yards. The ball came crashing off the underside of the bar before crossing the line via the back of Brechin ‘keeper Nelson, but there was no taking this goal away from the 18 year old.

The win was sealed in 62 minutes. Simon Lynch bursting into the box before being upended by Nelson as he tried to round the ‘keeper. Lynch took the penalty kick himself, expertly tucking the ball away high to Nelson’s right.

Brechin tried to get back into the match, but Dundee’s back four and goalkeeper Scott Murray were rarely troubled as they made it 450 minutes without conceding a goal.

With the points safe, Alan Kernaghan made a couple of changes. Stuart McCluskey replacing Barry Smith for his first appearance for three months. Deasley was also replaced by Steven Craig late on, with the travelling support appreciating the effort the youngster had put in on his first start. He can consider himself unlucky not to have opened his scoring account for the top team.

Saturday sees Stranraer visit Dens for the third time this season.
