Dundee are still in this season’s Scottish Cup, although they have still to progress to the semi-final stage following a 0-0 draw at New Douglas Park.

Cheered on by a sell out travelling support of 2096, manager Alan Kernaghan made one change from the previous week’s draw with Clyde. Scott Murray replaced the injured Kelvin Jack in goal. Tam McManus kept his starting place with fit again Bryan Deasley on the bench.

It was Hamilton that started the game the better, and they created the first chance after just 5 minutes. Mark Gilhaney crossed into the Dundee area, but Juanjo sidefooted high over the bar.

Dundee came more into the game, and home ‘keeper had to look lively to save from both Simon Lynch and his own defender. Paul Dixon’s wicked inswinging free kick was flicked on by Accies’ John Robertson and looked to be in all the way until McEwan fell low to his left to parry on the line.

Soon after it was Hamilton’s turn to come close. Steven Thomson’s header from an Accies corner had Murray well beaten, but Scott Robertson was on hand to head the ball clear off the line.

Kevin McDonald came close moments before half time. Superbly played in by Lynch’s backheel, the youngster did everything right only to be denied by McEwan’s outstretched leg.

Dundee should’ve been one down seconds into the second half. Brian Wake was played in one on one with Murray, but sliced his shot wide of goal.

The same man came even closer later on in the second half. His back header from Gilhaney’s cross, crashed off the base of Murray’s left hand post, before bouncing to safety.

Manager Kernaghan made a couple of changes in an attempt to try and win the game. Scott Gates replacing Kevin McDonald and Bryan Deasley coming on for Tam McManus.

Scott Robertson could’ve scored, but he miscued from Lynch’s cut back as both teams pressed for the winner. Lynch also forced McEwan into another save with a well struck shot from 18 yards.

McEwan again had to look lively late on, when he was forced to parry Paul Dixon’s 25-yard effort from a free kick.

The draw for the next round is live on Reporting Scotland on Monday 27th at around 6.45pm.

The replay is live on SKY television on Thursday 9th March, with a 7.45pm kick off.

Dundee’s next league game is away to Queen of the South on Tuesday 28th February.
