The Dee-Licious website would like to thank Bobby for his co-operation in the making of this article, Ta very much and the  best of luck to Jump the Q in the future, and dinnae be scared to come back and talk to us again ;¬) You`ll aye be welcome @ Dee-Licious

The JUMP THE Q interview 26/07/02

The band were formed in 1990 in Ardler, Dundee after "a good drinking session" and still boast 3 of the original line up (Bobby - lead singer, Paul - guitar and Bunny - bass guitar), having been in bands previously they knew the ropes and decided under the influence, to form Jump the Q.

An all Dundee band, the 5 piece outfit hail from far flung exotic places such as Beechy, Maryland and the Stobie, rumour has it Scotty the drummer is fae Mars ;¬)

Bobby started supporting the Dees when he was 9 years old when he moved to Kirkton, because "everyone supported the Dees there." He also ashamedly admits to once supporting the `tic (but that was when he lived in Beechy and was misled by his peers)

I asked Bobby for his honest opinion and he didnt dissapoint ;¬)

The Band & the CD

JUMP THE Q !  How did the name come about?
Even before I started playing in bands I had that name in my head, I once saw this unbelievably shite band playing in a pub in Motherwell, I said to myself shite band..good name though, so I took it and the rest is history.

The band took part in the superb presentation `sing alonga dee` at the Whitehall Theatre last year, can you tell us about the bands contribution to the show?
Wow! what a gig, we still talk about that show yet, it was amazing, the guy's who orginized it done a superb job. Being a greedy wee "so and so" I didn't want to come off it was such a buzz performing in front of fellow Dees. I want to do it again! "Are you listening Mr. Joe Lamb?

Bobby struts his stuff at the

What was the funniest moment from backstage?
Well before we went on both nights we were absolutely pissed, at one point Joe Lamb introduced the band and we didn't hear him we just sat there and got toar into oor Kerry oots, we had a scream in the dressing room we were applying one anothers Dundee  face paint whilst pissed it was all over the place, at one point I painted my dick blue and white I still haven`t washed that off ? good memories though.

Were the band dissapointed at such a low turn out?
It was a shame to see such a low turn out, I felt it for the guy's who organized the whole show, however the people that did turn out more than made up for the missing bodies, they really got into it and contributed greatly to the shows success.

Would you be willing to do another show if approached?
YES! YES YES! Absolutely, I hope there is going to be another one, however I think the guy's Joe, Mike and Jock should get all the help they need from the club, supporters associations etc.. to make the next show a big success. Jump the Q would be there at the drop of a hat if required.

What do the band members do for a living outside the club circuit?
Well Bunny and Paul are Electrical engineers Zzzzzzz! Grazer and Scotty both work in Sound Contol Music shop in Castle Street and I work with Citizens Advice Scotland in the Seagate, I do Money Advice, Debt consolodation that kind of thing.

Who had the idea for `Dundee Shoarts` How did you go about making the CD?
I had the idea for Dundee Shoarts a long time ago, songs that I write swim around in my head for a wee while before I actually put pen to paper. When we found out that we were playing the Dundee Supporters do in the Centenery we recorded the CD 2 days before in Grazers bedroom? and it was called Dundee Shoarts because they were shoart tracks.

Honestly!! Sheer profit or sheer fun ? ;¬)
FUN FUN FUN! I write most of my songs for fun, however the £5's for the CD's have been going to upgrading our equipment and help me pay off wee debts.

Online the CD has become an "unofficial" (due to the sweary words lol) CD for Dundee fans, would you consider doing a few more songs that could be made available online?
I do not have a problem with any of my songs being made available on line, the more accessable my songs become  the better.

Have you recorded anything else with a DundeeFC theme?
Yes im always writing songs and I do get distracted frequently into writing songs with  a Dundee FC theme. Im writing one at the moment called "Dinnae bring an Arab hame tae me" This is what I constantly tell my daughter Katie if she ever got merried, "Dinnae bring an Arab hame tae me?

Who actually wrote the songs for the CD?
It was me guilty as charged! I write all the stuff ( apart from the cover versions obviously! ) in the band, the other members concentrate on their instruments, I concentrate on sex and writing  sangs.
Very much a team effort, I couldn't have done it without my muckers, Grazer is tuned in where music technology  is concerned and everyone else contributed generously.

Would you describe yourselves as a cabaret band, or was the Cd just an enjoyable experience?
We would only be a carbaret band for The Dundee thing, we class ourselves as a normal  run of the mill pub band.

                                                              The Dundee Shoarts CD
                                                            Well Worth A Sky Diver

Is the CD `Dundee Shoarts` available by mailorder?
If anyone wanted a copy of  Dundee Shoarts in the Dundee area I would personaly deliver it by hand..for an extra quid for petrol or something like that. however I am in the process of arranging for the CD to be made available at MacDaniels Bar.

Who should we contact for details?
You can contact..Mr. G Allerdice..14 The Spruces, Carberry Crescent, Dundee  DD4 OXD. He is my Uncle and he takes care of a lot of Jump the Q promotional stuff.

How are sales going for the CD?
The CD's are selling as soon as they are made, the problem is were not turning them out fast enough. what with everyone in the band working its a bit difficult to keep the production going all of the time. But if anyone wants a CD we never dissappoint.

The Dees

Was Duffy your preferred choice for manager?
For a while I couldn't forgive Jim for going to the Hibees, but thats football. He has been away and accumulated more experience with the likes of Chelsea etc..and it could only be beneficial for the Dees. And yes Jim Duffy would be my preferred choice as manger.

How do you think the Dees will perform this season under Jim?
I think he will be fine as manager, and I think the players respect him enough to do their best for him  the fans and the club..And in all honesty we will do well under Jim Duffy as he isn't naive the way Ivano was. I just think it would be great if Ivano was to be a club scout or something.

Which team do you think (not hope ;¬) )will be relegated?
YINITED! Nah! The only reason I would'nt want united to go down is for the simple fact I love the derby's and I would rather travel 50 odd yards down the road to an away game than say a  Hundred miles to somewhere in the west coast. But I think Motherwell looked a bit shakey last season and in my opinion they could be contenders for the drop.

What has been your proudest moment as a Dee?
Well this moment will live with me forever, After my gig in the Centenery Bar..All of the Dundee Fans stood on the tables and chairs chanting..Jumpthe Q Jump the Q..Gulp! that was a moment!... oh! and Wee Jamsie Grady's wonder strike against yinited..that  was one of the proudest moments of being a Dark Blue.

What was your funniest moment as a Dee?
On the way back from the Dundee v Aberdeen Cup final, I was on a tube train with my girlfriend. We were both gutted at the result..then this big noisy drunk  sheep shaggin Aberdonian started calling me a Jute bastard..so I eventually lost it and  rapped his puss and told him "I would rather pull jute out of my fucking hair than wool out of my foreskin ya sheep shaggin bastard"! the whole compartment just applauded - even his mates were laughing at him.

What was your worst moment as a Dee?
My worst moment has got to be any defeat by Yinited, I feel so low after a derby defeat. none more so than the last one..jammy jammy bstrds!

How much money would it take to bribe you to change alliance to the arabs?
There is no amount of money that would make me an arab! I swear if there was no Dundee I would rather watch, female mud wrestling..once my daughter tried to enter  my car with a yinited carrier bag? I told her get rid of it! your no commin in here wee that!..she had to empty the contents oot on the seat and punt the offending bag.

Regardless of the cost, if you could sign 2 players for Dundee , who would they be?
Jamsie Grady my all time Dundee hero, but if we had to bring a couple of foreign acts then it would have to be  Figo and Ryan Giggs.

Finally ! Tell us something that would shock us, about the band ;¬)
Well the keyboard player has arab sympathies (The Tosser)  But I can reveal a shocking incident that will send shockwaves as far as weegie land. One time we were palying in Aberdeen at this social club thing, and across the road at this big hall Sidney Devine was performing, well at the start of the night I saw him outside and shouted " oh! Sidney gonna gee us Ten Guitars?" he turned round and shouted "fuck off you sheep shaggin bastard! I was gobsmacked!. So at half time we went over to his bands van opened the pertol cap and poured in  some pish we had collected earlier, after the gig we got our gear together pronto and buggered off before he came out. I think this will only shock Sid fans though?
